BI had the highest student volume ever, with 20 049 students as of 31 December 2011. The increase occurred in the BSc courses.
The BSc programmes had 9 324 full-time students, and the MSc programmes had 1 168 full-time students. There were 1 300 international students. Nearly 9 200 people took post-graduate and continuing education at BI.
The Universum student survey showed that BI students were happier than other students with their own educational institution. BI has seen it as important to keep in close touch with the students through dialogue meetings with the President and the Management Team. Well-known business and community leaders have lectured to the students under a concept called ”Rektor Inviterer” (On invitation from the President). Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, Finance Minister Sigbjørn Johnsen and Telenor CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas have been among the guest lecturers.
The student associations SBIO and BIS were very active, organising events such as Business and Industry Days (Næringslivsdagene), Introduction days (Innrykksdager) and Career Days (Karrieredagene). These events proved very popular with students and business people alike.
BI Alumni offered former students network building, academic updating and career development. The BI alumni base was Norway’s largest, counting 23 500 Norwegian and international activated profiles.
