The 30th International Bunker Conference was held in Oslo 22-24 April 2009. The 30th anniversary met where it all began more than 30 years ago as the first conference dedicated exclusively to the Bunker Industry. More than 200 participants from more than 115 companies in 22 countries gathered in Oslo at IBC 2009. Click on the link below to see a list of all companies represented.

The International Financial Crisis

The real extent of the credit crunch is yet not known but is already affecting the shipping industry - and the bunkering sector is as vulnerable as any other. Freight rates are expected to continue to plummet while operating costs rise. The predictions for 2009 and perhaps 2010 are pessimistic and economists are yet not able to fully explain why this has happened.

A Proactive Industry

Whatever happens to the world economy, there will always be a demand for cargo transportation by sea, which means that there will always be a demand for fuel – of whatever configuration is deemed to be the most efficient and proper by technology and the environment - to power the ships which carry that cargo. The bunkering industry’s challenge is to continue to provide a first-class service and product which is both safe and efficient. That will require nerve, and it will require continuing investment in technology, and in people, wherever possible.
