Participant experiences

Gain more insight into the Executive MBA programme through the participants' perspective.

My professional experience covers management of Sales and Marketing Departments, Business Units and subsidiaries. My educational background is a Master’s Degree in International Economics & Languages from 1992. When deciding to enroll in the BI Executive MBA, I hoped to further strengthen my overall command of complex international business challenges and dynamics based on up-to-date practical and theoretical approaches. The BI Executive MBA certainly has delivered on my expectations. Furthermore, I have been able to improve my management of stress in the face of multiple, conflicting deadlines in combination with dynamic team structures on top of an already time-consuming everyday work and private life. I am positive that my Executive MBA learnings and the cross-industry networks established will enhance my performance within my current job as well as my attractiveness to interesting future opportunities!

Since gaining my MA in Economics and Politics in 1989 I have enjoyed an extremely interesting and international career in banking / finance. I was aware, however, that there was more to learn and was fortunate enough that my company agreed to sponsor an MBA as part of a promotion to Head of Funding. I first heard about the BI Executive MBA through my previous boss who completed the course in 2006 and was attracted to it because of the quality of the BI offering. The whole process has been fascinating and a true test of will power and endurance; the traveling alone has been a challenge to fit in amongst work and business trips not to mention family life. I have learned a great deal in areas before completely foreign to me and know that I will see true benefits over the coming years when new professional challenges come my way.The course is not for the faint hearted and requires real discipline - if I am completely honest, I have no idea what I'm going to do with all that spare time I will obviously have when the program is finished!

A couple of years back I worked on a project with a BI Executive MBA student, and couldn’t help noticing his outstanding development throughout the 1.5 years of his study. I saw his transformation, and at the same time recognized my own professional constraints. To make it short; my ambitions outran my abilities - my toolbox obviously did not contain the right tools. Now, 16 months into the Executive MBA programme, my colleagues are starting to recognize the same development in me that I saw in my colleague. I have started to fill my toolbox, and already feel much more capable of following my ambitions. For me, the Executive MBA is my first step – a giant leap – towards understanding “the art of business”, also providing me with life-long relations from a vast variety of industries through my Executive MBA peers.

I graduate with the class of Executive MBA 6 in September 2010. Looking back, enrolling in the Executive Master’s program at BI was one of the best - decisions I made in 2008. The school has excellent facilities and some really exceptional professors. I joined the program to gain new skills in leadership and management that would, and did help in my current job. I was also full of curiosity to meet people from other professions, build a network and gain some insight into how businesses run in Norway and the Nordic countries. I am satisfied on all counts. The time pressure and workload of the Executive MBA is demanding. The seminars were well organized and offered a great international perspective to the course. I would like to thank Mr. Hanno Roberts for the Management Accounting class. It was so well taught, and as with all the other Executive MBA classes at BI, has really helped me make decisions on how I would like my career to progress from here.
