Bendik M. Samuelsen teaches the Master of Science courses Brand Management and Marketing Communication. In addition to these educational areas, he is the associate dean for the bachelor in marketing.

Brand management and market communication are subject areas at BI that maintain a high international standard and attract ambitious students.

- I expect my students to see challenges and opportunities in the unknown and not be put off by a heavy workload.

The Master of Science courses are structured to include many class discussions and cases. The working language is English. The students can expect interesting and up-to-date lectures and case discussions. There are also cases at the bachelor level, but here the tuition is in Norwegian.

- The students will also have the opportunity to develop sound analytical abilities, and acquire an understanding of the importance of being critical of one’s own and peoples’ existing assumptions, as many seemingly established truths may not hold water in brand development, says Samuelsen.

After graduating, students will be attractive to both Norwegian and international companies. Most companies depend on their brands for survival in today’s market and therefore need staff who are knowledgeable in the field of brand management. This also applies across national borders, as the theories employed in the course are of an international calibre.

Market communication and brand management at the master level

The difference between studying market communication and brand management at the bachelor and master levels, is that the courses are structured to develop a deeper understanding of the theory sectors.

- At the bachelor level there is more focus on overall frameworks, while the master level takes a more critical in-depth view and questions established truths. The requirements for reflection and analytical abilities are thus more stringent than at the bachelor level, Samuelsen explains.

Due to the educational structure of the master courses, which focus on case studies and discussions, there is a maximum of 55 students in each class. There are also many international students in these classes.

At the bachelor level there is more focus on overall frameworks, while the master level takes a more critical in-depth view and questions established truths.
