Mark Kriger, Professor - Department of Strategy and Logistics

Mark Kriger is Professor of Strategic Management at BI Norwegian Business School since 1995. He practices an interactive style of teaching in courses on strategy and leadership.

Kriger has a Doctorate from Harvard in Business Administration as well as Master's degrees in Computer Science and Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley and Massachusetts Institute of Technology respectively.

At BI he teaches courses in Strategic Management, Strategic Process and ‘Leadership and Strategies for Innovation and Entrepeneurship’ in the Doctoral, MBA, Executive MBA, Master of Science and Master of Management programmes.

- I do not see myself as your typical lecturer. Teaching to me is more like dancing. I could give a lecture about leadership and strategic process (and sometimes do), but I prefer to orchestrate a learning process and role-model leadership and strategy practice in the classroom with the students as the co-creators . . . but  I also want to leave them with a real sense of where I feel the strategy field is heading in the longer term, Kriger says.

Kriger’s research interests are in the areas of strategic process, executive leadership, knowledge transfer in multinationals and the creation of value in firms - especially in information technology intensive companies. In class, Kriger aims to first clear away the students’ misconseptions about what strategic leaders need in the way of competencies and ways of thinking.

- The best students in my courses are the ones who manage to balance practical excperience with creative and analytical skills. The really good ones go on to become senior managers and Vice Presidents in well-known international companies. Ideally they learn more about how to ask good questions and to creatively imagine and execute new business opportunities than just injest a long list of theories that they can easily buy in the Heathrow or Tannum bookshops. In class I aim to first clear away the students’ misconseptions about what strategic leaders need in the way of competencies and ways of thinking.
