The board agreed with NOKUT’s independent committee, and concluded by recommending that BI be granted accreditation as a specialized university.
NOKUT wrote the following in its resolution concerning BI:
- The Norwegian School of Management BI satisfies the requirements for accreditation as a specialized university, as is formulated in NOKUT’s regulations on the standards and criteria for accreditation of studies and the criteria for accreditation of institutes in Norwegian higher education, chapter 3, paragraph 3-2 (25.01.2006).
- It is expected that the institute will avail itself of the expert committee’s evaluations and recommendations for its further development, and that future evaluations and initiatives will reflect the follow-up of these.
The King in the Council of State
BI shall obtain accreditation as a specialized university later in the year when the King in the Council of State will formally ratify the matter.
Accreditation grants freedom of action
Accreditation as a specialized university means that BI may approve its own study programmes, and will no longer need to apply to NOKUT for accreditation of each programme.
- BI can again develop more rapidly and offer more relevant, quality education in line with the new and constantly changing skills requirement in Norwegian working and business life. We will save time and become even more relevant than before. It is an important step on the road to BI’s vision of becoming one of the leading business schools in Europe”, says President Tom Colbjørnsen.
The NOKUT-accreditation has given the Norwegian School of Management BI a new Quality Seal in addition to the international EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation, which BI obtained in 2005.
