Hilde C. Bjørnland becomes president of academic association

27 April 2017

Society for Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics (SNDE) is an international association with global reach and influence. Hilde C. Bjørnland becomes president after sitting in the administrative committee for the last two years.

- This is, of course, a very nice recognition for me as a professional and as a leader, Bjørnland said, a Professor of social economics at BI Norwegian Business School.

SNDE was founded 25 years ago and is a methodological open association for academics and other economists who research on macroeconomics, finance and econometrics. The association serves as an open forum for academics and other economists who wish to exchange research ideas within the respective disciplines.

- My role will be to promote the association's interests and help ensure the association's activities are conducted in the best way possible, "Bjørnland continued.

SNDE’s Journal "Studies in Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics" is a top-class publication, and its annual symposium regularly attracts some of the most recognized researchers in the field.

- The association has traditionally had some focus on the use of nonlinear methods, but that is no requirement. I have participated in the annual symposiums of SNDE for some years. The first 10 years, the symposiums were held in the United States. As the organization has grown, the field of appeal has become more international, and in 2015, SNDE organized its annual symposium at BI with 200 participants. I headed that conference together with former colleague Francesco Ravazzolo.

Bjørnland has been in SNDE's administrative committee for almost two years, and is looking forward to leading the good work.

- SNDE just became a member of ASSA (Allied Social Science Association), and the first thing we are about to do is organize an invited session at the annual meeting of the American Economic Association in Philadelphia in January next year. Thereafter, it is organizing SNDE's annual symposium, which will take place in Tokyo in March 2018.
