BI launches new PhD specialization in accounting
3 July 2023This marks the first expansion of BI’s PhD programme since it was founded. The decision reflects the recent growth in faculty and research output of the accounting research group.
"The PhD specialization in accounting will change the competitive landscape in the Nordics and will further increase the reputation of the accounting research group both within Scandinavia and Europe. This signals BI’s commitment towards solidifying its position as a top European business school,” says Provost for Research and Academic Resources Ingunn Myrtveit.
The first students in the PhD specialization in accounting will start in fall 2024. In addition to accounting, BI offers PhD specializations in marketing, strategy, finance, leadership and organization and economics.
As Associate Dean, Michael Kisser will be responsible for developing the new specialization. The goal is to develop a course package with common courses shared with Economics and Finance, with specialization and elective courses covering the three pillars of the academic discipline in accounting: financial accounting, auditing, and management accounting.
“For BI this is a milestone and underscores our commitment to staying at the forefront of research and education. With our excellent research capacity and close connection with top international accounting scholars, our group looks forward to developing a specialization that prepares students for success in academic accounting careers” says Kisser.
BI welcomes applications from all over the world and we currently have approximately 20 different nationalities in our PhD programme. BI announces open PhD position at the end of every year with a deadline early the following year.
