Internship turned into full-time job in international tech company

18 March 2024

Moa moved to Norway from Gothenburg to pursue her master´s degree at BI. After completing an internship in Crayon Group as part of her studies, she secured a permanent position as a Global Demand Generation Manager in the same company.

While doing her master’s degree in Strategic Marketing Management at BI, M Bengtsson Fröberg opted to take the internship course, which eventually led to her decision to stay in Oslo. After completing her studies last year, Moa now works full-time at the global technology company Crayon Group.

Moa considers herself to be more analytical than creative. Her interest for the numbers and strategies that are important for marketing, made the position a perfect fit for her.

“I find it exciting to analyse and understand why certain strategies stand out. In business-to-business marketing, decisions are rarely obvious, and the collaboration between the sales and marketing departments adds an extra dimension of complexity and excitement. Being able to contribute to the company´s success while applying the knowledge I gained from my studies is both rewarding and fun,” Moa says.

Varied workday

Crayon Group is an international company that offers consulting and advisory services in digital transformation. They assist clients with services to develop, optimize, and operate IT services.

Moa found the internship to be an ideal opportunity to gain experience in her field of study. She also mentions that it was a very nice way to make the transition from student to full-time employee easier and a little less daunting.

“We learn so much at BI, but I was motivated to apply that knowledge in a workplace. The experience you gain during an internship is valuable when you are applying for a job, not just for the CV, but also because you gain practical experience,” she says, before adding:

“At the same time, the internship opens the door to potential permanent employment, which is why I only applied for internships in companies where I could see myself working for an extended period.”

She also mentions that she actively applies the knowledge from her studies in her everyday work life.

“The studies taught me to balance my decisions in something concrete and gave me the ability to be analytical and solution oriented. In the Branding course, we learned that everything we do in marketing reflects on our brand and the importance of applying marketing strategies that resonate with the buyer – a mindset I reflect on almost daily.”

One of the things Moa likes best about working at Crayon is the varied workday and the opportunity to work with many talented colleagues. She finds herself learning something new all the time.

“My main task is to help Crayon´s departments in various countries improve the way they handle customer relations and automated marketing to effectively reach our target audiences. I am also responsible for the global reporting of marketing KPI’s. This involves close collaboration with the sales team to develop, implement, and improve processes related to the customer journey and interactions.”

Be fearless

Moa encourages students to work efficiently and purposefully while also emphasizing the importance of being fearless in trying new things:

“Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want, don’t be afraid if your career doesn’t turn out exactly as you planned, and don’t be afraid to try something new.”

Facts about Internship at BI

  • Moa was among the BI students who annually choose to take an internship as an elective course, where the course is a part of the regular curriculum.
  • The elective course is available at both bachelor and master level. Students earn credits and work for an approved company during a semester.
  • Bachelor students typically work in a company for a few days a week, while master students usually work full-time for a specified period.
  • Bachelor students dreaming of becoming entrepreneurs can also combine entrepreneurship with the elective course “Internship in your own startup company”, where they earn credits for working in their own company.
