When were you an active case student at BI and at which campus?
At the last year of my bachelor degree, 2013 at Campus Oslo.
Why did you decide to join BI’s case activities?
The semester before I joined the case team, I was on exchange in Canada. At that university we had a lot of business cases in class. I thought it was very educational and exiting, and I also experienced how relevant it is for business life. I was eager for new experiences at my last semester at my bachelor back in Oslo, and thought it would be a great opportunity to develop new skills and meet new people.
What was the name of your case team and how did you find your teammates?
The name of our case team was BRFK Consulting (first letter of the members’ last names). The team was put together by the administration at BI.
Did you have a specific role on your team?
After some case-solving and practicing, our team developed and experienced which roles each member naturally fit into. There were two of us who mainly had responsibility for the soft parts – e.g. market analysis, marketing and HR, and the two other members mainly had responsibility for finance.

What is your best memory from your case journey at BI?
Actually, the whole experience in joining an international case competition; meeting all the inspiring and skilled students from all over the world, the excitement before the case is handed out, solving the case with teammates and the relief when it was over.
What are your top three takeaways from case training and competitions?
Developing presentation skills and giving a presentation with short preparation time in a different language than my mother tongue, understanding the main problem and sorting relevant information under time-pressure in order to solve the main challenge in the case, and how our group dynamic works in a team under pressure and my role in a team.
What skills did you learn from participating in case which were relevant to your development/career and how?
During the case practicing, we learned how to always make sure that what we were working on, always was relevant for solving the task. Due to the limited time, there was no room for spending time on something that wasn’t very relevant for the task-solving. I think this is important no matter what you are working on to keep focus on the actual task. Also, giving presentations without a lot of time for preparation is a challenge which I have grown a lot on.
Do you have any advice to students who are curious about case?
If you want to challenge yourself and get relevant experience, take part in a case competition. Just do it!
