Interview with Karl Erik Askjer Kjær
1. When were you an active member of BI Case Teams and at which campus did you study?
I was an active member of of Case Teams the fall 2023 to the spring of 2024, and I studied on campus Oslo.
2. Why did you decide to join BI Case Teams?
I love to solve problems and work together with other people in teams. I also find presenting to be fun. And at BI Case Teams you get all those combined, and that is such a great experience, at least when you also get the rush of doing it under time pressure.
Another one of the reasons I wanted to join BI Case Teams is that I wanted to grow in my abilities of problem solving, presenting, and working closely with others.
3. What was the name of your case team(s) and what did you do to create a good team dynamic?
I’ve competed with two different teams; during BI National Case Competition 2023 I was a part of Deep Blue Consulting and in the BI International Case Competition 2024 I was a part of Synergy Consulting.
4. Did you have a specific role in your team?
I’m kind of a generalist in a team, so I can take on multiple roles. So, in the BI International Case Competition I took on the role as leader for brainstorming and for getting everyone onboard with the strategy.
5. Which case competitions did you take part in (national and international)?
I participated in and won BI National Case Competition 2023! I also participated in Oslo Handelstands Forening’s Case Battle 2023, and I participated in the BI International Case Competition 2024.
6. What is your best memory from your case journey at BI?
I think the whole experience from participating in the BI International Case Competition is my best memory. Everything from the reception in the beautiful Oslo City Hall, to the intense hours of solving two challenging and fun cases with great people.
7. What are your top three takeaways from case training and competitions?
Great people, enhanced problem-solving skills, and a lot of fun!
8. What skills did you learn from participating in case which were relevant to your development/career and how?
By participating in BI Case Teams, I have learnt to solve cases in a more structured way, and I’ve also gotten a lot of practice of solving cases and working closely with other people.
9. Do you have any advice to students who are curious about BI Case Teams?
If you like to work together with other people, and want to enhance your problem-solving skills, this is the opportunity for you!
