"I can confidently say that my current career aspirations are influenced by my participation in the BI Case Club, and that I’ve made strong friendships along the way!"

When were you an active case student at BI and at which campus?
I was active throughout 2019 at campus Oslo.

Why did you decide to join BI’s case activities?
I wanted to use the knowledge that I accumulated over my various courses and business experience and put it in practice! Case appeals to my strategy-oriented way of thinking and is a great way to practice problem-solving and get a taste of what many management consultants do on a day to day basis.

What was the name of your case team and how did you find your teammates?
We were called Lefta Consulting. I knew Helle and Nicholas from my program, and met Andreas through Helle’s introduction, as she brought both Nicholas and myself onto the team before the NHH International Case Competition.

Did you have a specific role on your team?
I think we all did a bit of everything! I would find myself formatting slides, but never made the slide masters! We all contributed to brainstorming and overall strategy formulation. If I had to pick one thing I always did it would be poking holes in our solutions! Once we plugged all the holes, we’d be confident in what we presented and were ready for questions.

Which case competitions did you take part in?
I took part in the NHH International Case Competition and the Oslo Deloitte Case Competition (which we won!)

What is your best memory from your case journey at BI?
My best memory is the entire NHH International Case Competition. Travelling with the team and Hilde (Project Manager), meeting so many talented and motivated people from around the world, and getting to compete with them was so fun!

What are your top three takeaways from case training and competitions?

  1. Cases can be exhausting, but so rewarding
  2. If you keep throwing ideas out and discussing with your teammates, you will always find a solution
  3. It is insane how much you can do on just 3 hours of sleep

What skills did you learn from participating in case which were relevant to your development/career and how?
I can confidently say I am a better problem solver because of case. Working for hours on a solution and making it bulletproof is such good practice for real work experience! Case also made me a more confident and eloquent presenter. After you present to a panel of judges who are looking to catch you off guard, you’ll never be scared of presenting again!

Do you have any advice to students who are curious about case?
Just join! I would urge anyone to try tackling a couple cases! It is hard work, but it is extremely rewarding. It will put all of your courses into perspective and maybe even give you a clearer idea of what you want to do in your career. I can confidently say that my current career aspirations are influenced by my participation in the BI Case Club, and that I’ve made strong friendships along the way!
