Next Wave - Maritime Leadership Program

The industry is facing unprecedented challenges, linked to decarbonization, digitalization and diversity. This program is a tailormade leadership development program for the maritime industry, designed to strengthen and prepare the next generation of maritime leaders to take on these challenges.

About the program

The industry is facing unprecedented challenges, linked to decarbonization, digitalization and diversity. This program is a tailormade leadership development program for the maritime industry, designed to strengthen and prepare the next generation of maritime leaders to take on these challenges. The course has been co-created by BI and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), in co-creation with Maritime Bergen and industry partners. During the course the participants will receive a strategic leadership program that will elevate competencies for driving change and create more visible role-models as the industry competes to attract the brightest heads from 100% of the talent pool.

 

This program will have the right combination of theory and real-life cases, group work and mentoring/coaching (together with Wista) and concrete projects to solve.

Target group

The program aims to have a maximum of 25 participants. The target group is aspiring maritime leaders with approximately 10 years of relevant work experience (“Midships”) from companies aiming to strengthen its team in the midst of change and a new area. The participants are managers at a strategic level with budgetary responsibilities in current position.

Program overview

Module 1 - “A Changing Maritime Industry”
Place: Bergen, 26-27 September 2022

You will gain insight into the changing industry conditions for the maritime industry and implied opportunities and threats. You will learn about competition and cooperation, and how you as a leader can navigate strategically.

Module 2 – “Strategic Work"
Place: Oslo, 9-10 November 2022

In this module we will take the internal perspective to strategy. You will learn how to create value through business models. You will learn about resources, capabilities and competence.

Module 3 – “The Transition to Green”
Place: Haugesund, 25-26 January 2023

This module offer an overview of challenges related to the transition to green solutions.  You will learn about flexibility in the development of green solutions, as well as taking a human-centred approach in solutions development.

Module 4 – “Strategic Digitalization”
Place: Bergen, 22-23 March 2023

This module will build up your knowledge to understand the opportunities and threats of digitalization. You will learn how you as a leader can take advantage of emerging technologies (ie AI, Big Data). You will also learn more about technology management and cybersecurity.

Module 5 – “Innovation and Scaling”
Place: Bergen, 31 May – 1 June 2023

In this module you will learn about innovation, how to identify and cultivate promising ideas and commercialize the value proposition. You will learn about strategic trade-offs and how to be attractive to employees and drive change.
