The Department of Law and Governance has one of Norway’s largest academic communities within business law as well as a strong team of experts in corporate social responsibility, banking and insurance, political economy and climate strategy.

Research and dissemination
Our research areas include trusts and foundations, corporate law, tax law, accounting law, intellectual property, banking and securities law, European politics, energy policy and climate strategies.
Every year the department organizes a series of seminars within corporate law, real estate, foundation research and climate strategies. The research is presented at scientific conferences and research seminars.
The "Open Forum" with Gudmund Hernes is a discussion of leadership experiences with various industry leaders. Previous guests at the Open Forum have included Jonas Gahr Støre, Kåre Willoch, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Jens Ulltveit-Moe, Sylvia Brustad, Harald Norvik and Jørgen Randers.
The department's goal is to provide academic programmes of the highest quality at all levels.
At Bachelor level, the department has a large course portfolio with responsibility for the Bachelor in Business, Bachelor in Real Estate and Bachelor in Accounting and Auditing (together with the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Business Analytics). Lecturing in banking and insurance, shipping and political economy also fall under this department.
At Master level, we cooperate with the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Business Analytics for the Master in Accounting and Auditing, and the major in Business Law, Tax and Auditing on the Master of Science in Business programme.
On the Executive level, the department has responsibility for the Master of Management programmes in Employment Law and Green Growth. Further, the department is responsible for the Master programme in Tax and is heavily involved with the Master in Defense and the Master in School Management, both specialised programmes with 15 ECTS. on Executive level. The department also provides courses on energy policy and shipping on the Executive MBA.
