Research projects

News regarding externally funded research projects at BI, and information for participants in studies containing personal data collected from secondary sources.

Some of the research projects conducted at BI contain large amounts of data not collected directly from the person it belongs to, but from secondary sources, for examples Statistics Norway (SSB). Due to the large number of participants, it is not possible to personally obtain consent from, or give information to, everyone included in the research projects. Information about these projects is found in the list below.

The legal basis for the processing of personal data in these projects is public interest (GDPR article 6 nr. 1 letter e). Prior to starting, privacy and legality is evaluated for all projects.

The personal data will only be accessible to project members, or peoples approved by the project leader or data source. To ensure legal and proper processing of personal data in these projects, all BI employees follow the “Procedure for research data management”, and additional demands from data sources when applicable.

So long as you can be identified in the collected data, you have the right to ask BI for access to the personal data being processed about you, rectify, delete, or restrict the processing. You can also object to the processing of your data. If it not possible to identify you, or exercise your rights, you will receive an explanation for this. You also have the right to send a complaint to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority regarding the processing of your personal data by BI and the specific project.

If you have questions, or wish to exercise your rights, please contact the project leader. The contact information for each project leader is found on the specific projects page listed below. You can also contact BI’s Data Protection Officer: personvernombud@bi.no
