Information to our Russian students and applicants

We are all affected by the invasion of Ukraine and have great concerns for the Ukrainian people and what they are going through.

Still, no one should doubt that BI cares for all our students regardless of nationality. Everyone is entitled to feel welcome, safe, respected and included. In difficult times it is important that we stand together and take care of each other. None of our students is to blame or should experience harassment related to this situation.

BI will follow the recommendations and guidelines from our government. There are no sanctions towards Russian students in Norway. BI is closely monitoring the situation and will keep our students and applicants updated on any changes.

Current BI students

  • Russian students in Norway and at BI will not lose their study permit
  • Students with scholarships will not lose their funding

Applicants to BI

  • BI will consider all applicants to our study programmes and scholarships on equal terms.
  • Study permits are granted by the Norwegian government. We recommend you apply for a visa as soon as you are accepted to one of our study programmes. Read more on this page.

BI fully supports the education sector’s willingness to help Ukrainian refugees

Our response to the Ministry of Education and Research regarding the war in Ukraine is clear: as long as BI has the academic and physical capacity, we are prepared to accept more students.

In response to the Ministry of Education and Research's request for information collection (sector letter 3.5), BI has confirmed that the school will be able to mobilize capacity within already existing English-speaking programmes at bachelor's, master's and PhD levels as early as autumn 2022.

Based on BI's existing student volume and forecasts for autumn admission, BI's management has estimated the following opportunities for accepting potential students of Ukrainian refugees:

  • Bachelor's degree programmes: Up to 300 students distributed over the three academic years.
  • Master's programmes: Up to 100 students distributed over the two academic years.
