The Alumni Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of our alumni, and their strong contribution to the society.

The BI Alumni Awards recognizes outstanding alumni who plays an important role in BIs impact on society, and it is our pleasure to launch the nomination campaign for the BI Alumni Awards. 

This year awards will be given in the following two categories: Distinguished Alumni Award and Young Alumni Award.

Nomination must be submitted by 31 August 2024.

Nominators need to specify which award category the candidate is nominated for, add a statement of support and submit online. The nomination committee may also nominate in all categories within the official deadline.

Distinguished Alumni Award

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honour bestowed by BI Norwegian Business School upon an outstanding alumnus. The award is presented to notable alumnus for excellence in commitment, leadership, and volunteer contribution to society. 

Criteria of nomination:

  • Must be a graduate of BI Norwegian Business School or one of its predecessor institutions.
  • Must have achieved broad recognition for extraordinary performance, advancement of knowledge or professional field of work, or volunteer contribution to society through application of his or her BI Norwegian Business School education.

Young Alumni Award

The Young Alumni Award is given to the alumnus who has demonstrated the values derived from a business school education by making a significant impact on their industry and having professional accomplishment on national or international level. The recipient must have graduated within the past 10 years.

Criteria of nomination:

  • Must be a graduate of BI Norwegian Business School.
  • Excelled early in life and shown potential for continued success.
  • Attained increasingly responsible positions within their organisation, business or field of work.
  • Received recognition for significant professional contributions or creative work through honours, awards and/or media attention.

The Young Alumni Award will be given to four outstanding alumni, one from each of BIs’ four campuses in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger.

Award Ceremonies 2024

The Alumni Awards ceremony will this year take place at the Annual BI Alumni Celebrations at our four campuses on the following dates:

Stavanger TBA - Distinguished Alumni Award OR Young Alumni Award 
Oslo 17 October - Distinguished Alumni Award & Young Alumni Award
Trondheim TBA - Distinguished Alumni Award OR Young Alumni Award 
Bergen TBA - Distinguished Alumni Award OR Young Alumni Award

Young Alumni Award 2023

Liselotte Farstad

Her efforts and involvement started during her studies when she had an internship in the Government Pension Fund Global (Oljefondet). 

During her internship, Farstad developed a trading model that was used to invest two billion kroner in the stock and bond markets. This proves that it is possible to achieve an enormous amount as a young student and early in his working career. These are achievements that are inspiring for our students who are looking forward to entering the job market.

Elin Sinervo

Her efforts as CEO of Volkswagen Møller Bilfinans, strong leadership figure and the ability to lead with a focus on people, have been mentioned in the nomination for this award.

She has built a career that has great impact and impact on society and is an alumni that our students look up to, as well as being a champion for gender equality in a male-dominated industry, while also inspiring our students who are looking forward to entering the job market.

Distinguished Alumni Award 2023

Morten Borge

His efforts as CEO of Ferd AS, and the vision of Ferd AS creating value for society as a whole, have been mentioned in the nomination for this award. 

He has a heavy responsibility for investments in energy, oil services and maritime industry. In addition, he is a member of Folketrygdefondet's board for the period 2023-2027. He has built a career that has great impact and impact on society and is an alumni that our students look up to and inspire our students who look forward to entering the job market.

Sumeet Singh Patpatia

His efforts to highlight diversity as value creation in businesses is something that has been highlighted in the nomination. 

Diversity as a superpower for business task solving has a huge impact on society. In addition, the work he has done on the establishment and management of Turban Day is recognized. 

Nikolai Herman Skeie Wiencke
Nikolai Herman Skeie Wiencke

Young Alumni Award 2021

Nikolai Herman Skeie Wiencke

During his time as a student, Nikolai was an active member of the local student organisation at BI - campus Trondheim, and represented the school at BI's Case competition.

At the same time, Nikolai was one of the best students in the year he graduated from BI. He received the London Bridge Ward Scholarship for further studies at Cass Business School in London. In London, Nikolai had several internships, including at the London Stock Exchange. After completing his Bachelor's degree at BI, he started as an Execution Trader at Beringer Finance. He worked there for a year before taking a master's in International Security at IBEI in Barcelona. During the finalisation of his master's thesis in spring 2020, Nikolai started his own company BlueC together with two friends. A company that builds a business model around ocean-based ecosystem services.

Christian H. Skjelbakken

Christian H. Skjelbakken is an inspiration for BI students and an example of how to give back as an alumni from BI.

When we call to ask him to share his experiences, and career advice with students, he never says no. Whether it's Back to School, Academic Day, Roadshow, Career Days, Bry deg-week, or anything else. He always says, "Yes, I can come." or "I'm in." This year's Young Alumni graduated as a real estate agent from BI in 2018 and is today one of the founders behind Heime, where the goal is to create neighborhoods and homes where community and social sustainability flourish.

His efforts as a leader in Telia Norway, as well as international experience in Accenture, have been mentioned in the nomination for this award. 

He has built a career that has great impact and impact on society and is an alumni that our students look up to and inspire our students who look forward to entering the job market.

Runar Hollevik

His efforts as CEO, and how he sees NorgesGruppen as a team where each individual contributes to lifting the team to new heights, has been mentioned in the nomination for this award. 

He has built a career that has great impact and impact on society and is an alumni that our students look up to and inspire our students who look forward to entering the job market.

Thina Saltvedt

Distinguished Alumni Award 2023

Thina Saltvedt

Her efforts as chair of the expert committee appointed by the government to explore opportunities for climate-friendly investments leave her mark on the public debate.

As well as being the chief analyst in Nordea's Sustainable Finance department. She is known for her positive attitude and contribution to panel debates and events and is a strong ambassador for BI. Her career path is inspiring for our students who are looking forward to entering the job market.

Maalfrid Brath

Distinguished Alumni Award 2021

Maalfrid Brath

Maalfrid Brath has several years' experience as a senior manager and board member. She is currently a board member of NHO and Young Entrepreneurship Norway.

In addition, she is regional director for the Nordics and the Baltics in the Manpower group, where she has been top manager for the past 12 years. She has also previously been in the top management of Storebrand. As a manager, Maalfrid focuses on motivating his employees. She believes that motivation in the form of responsibility is important for satisfaction in the workplace. She is a person who focuses on people's lives and professional development.
