A Norwegian Study Guide

Chapter 6: Norwegian Society

What really defines the essence of Norway? It is a free, equal and democratic country where most people feel safe.

We feel confident that you will experience the same if you choose to study in Norway. Even though the weather sometimes isn't that welcoming, we assure you, the people are.

Norwegian Society

  • Feel free to be yourself

Norway is a safe place to live. Our crime rates are low, and we pride ourself with safe and open communities. It's one of the most democratic countries in the world, and freedom of speech, religion and sexual orientation are values that are truly integrated in our society.

  • How to get around

Yes, we know we are located way, way up north. But it's really not that isolated. We are actually just two hours away from London, Berlin and Paris. Oslo Airport Gardermoen is a big and efficient airport with flights all around the world and is very accessible. Being a part of Europe, you'll get the opportunity to travel from Norway to many exciting European cities, for a relatively cheap cost. Go explore!

  • Four seasons in one day

It probably doesn't come as a big surprise that nature in Norway is an important part of our way of life. The term “four seasons in one day” could easily have been invented in Norway. It can be a warm summer day, and just a few hours later, the temperature can drop dramatically and you can experience a hail storm, even in summer. So come prepared! Norway is ideal for a person with an active lifestyle. With our clean air and water, there are endless possibilities for an adventurer (and everyone else).

  • We hope you won't need this..

If you're in need of medical help, don't freak out. As an international student you are entitled to a free consultation at the student health care service. But remember, this does not mean that you don't need a proper insurance.
