On 4 April 2025, Nordic Center for Internet and Society member and PhD Candidate Victor Renza virtually delivered the inaugural talk at the VIII National Congress of Artistic Syncretism "Art Speaks”. The conference was held at the University of Colima in Mexico and organized by the Department of Visual Arts of the Instituto Universitario de Bellas Artes (IUBA) and the "Art and Society" Academic Body of the University of Colima. It featured a hybrid format, bringing together participants both in-person and online to analyze, through research based on artistic practice, the different training approaches being implemented in teaching-learning processes within various artistic disciplines.
During his talk, Victor discussed the interplay between art, cultural institutions, and new technologies such as Web3 and artificial intelligence. He highlighted the dual challenges and opportunities these emerging technologies present for creators, emphasizing the need for cultural institutions to embrace co-creation models in response to evolving social and technological landscapes, particularly regarding blockchain.
Victor mentioned that while there are concerns about job loss due to AI, these challenges can be reframed as opportunities to engage new audiences in more dynamic, interactive ways. He explained blockchain as a secure and transparent technology that facilitates decentralized information storage. Although he acknowledged that Web3 is not without its accessibility challenges and unprepared audiences, he underscored its potential to foster a more inclusive and experimental cultural environment, aligning with current trends in contemporary art.
