The President's speech to our new MSc students

13 August 2019

Dear new Master of Science students! Good morning. And welcome to BI Norwegian Business School!

I am very happy to see all of you here. The start of a new semester is always exciting. Both for us, and for you.

Although I do not know you personally, I still know something about everyone in this room. You are all talented, motivated and dedicated students. These are important criteria for admission to our MSc programme.

You will have different personal goals and career aspirations, but coming to BI means you are one step closer to achieving them.

As the President, I feel a strong responsibility to make sure we fulfil your expectations. We are very proud and happy you have chosen our school for your Master of Science degree.

Some of you are familiar with us and have already studied here for a few years. Others are joining us for the first time.

No matter what, all of you are in the same position: You have all done your Bachelor degrees. Today, the two-year journey of getting an MSc degree begins.

The investment in getting this degree will be one of the most important investments you make in your life. It will influence your life in many ways.

It will open doors and opportunities. It will be challenging both academically and personally.

But most of all ‒ it will be something you will remember as the most rewarding thing you have ever done.

An important part of this journey is to develop yourself on a personal level. Studying is also about having fun!

I urge you to get involved in our student association. Make friends, build a network and enjoy your life as a student, both on and off campus.

You are joining one of Europe’s most recognized business schools and you will acquire research-based knowledge delivered by a world-class faculty.

When we develop our study programmes, we always try to focus on the future. We are living in an increasingly polarized world where uncertainty fuels tension and big changes.

We believe tomorrow’s most successful people will be those who do not fear raising their voice. Those who dare to stand up for themselves and master working in an international context.

The people managing to implement new technology most effectively. And those who understand that the most sustainable companies, will become the most profitable ones.

Our focus is always to bridge theory and practice, and prepare you for a real working environment. I know that the Dean Master will tell you more about this and how we celebrate our students’ academic success.

Today, you become one of us. This is why we are gathered here today. Make sure you get off to a good start. Engage yourselves! Find a good study partner! Pay attention and be kind to the people around you.

Make each day here at BI count. The more time and effort you put into your studies in the next two years, the bigger the reward later in life. And we will be here, helping you along.

Dear students. Welcome to BI. And good luck with your studies!
