We are very pleased to announce a joint seminar by the CCGR and CFA Society Norway. The talk focuses of examining how ESG components translate into value creation. Our distinguished presenters Melanie Brooks and Isabelle Juillard Thompsen, CFA will discuss how E, S, and G components are currently viewed in business and how they relate and impact growth, capital expenditure, and cost of capital. The speakers will share their experience and will examine cases of companies addressing ESG aspects in business.

SPEAKER BIOS:

Melanie Brooks
Melanie Brooks works as Investment Manager and Head of Sustainability at CARN Capital in Oslo. CARN manages two funds, Latitude (long-short) and Longitude (long only), both investing in sustainable companies in the Nordics. Melanie joined the CARN investment team in 2020 from the position of Head of ESG Risk Monitoring at Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM). She has previously held roles in ESG and sustainable investing at Folketrygdfondet and Société Générale and was a founding member of NORSIF (Norwegian Forum for Responsible and Sustainable Investment). Melanie holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Strategy from Said Business School at the University of Oxford, an M.Sc. in Development Studies from NMBU and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of New Mexico.

Isabelle Juillard Thompsen, CFA
Isabelle has worked as portfolio manager heading equity investing at Gjensidige Stiftelsen, the largest foundation in Norway. She is also responsible for sustainable investments and for the risk management of the foundation’s investment portfolio. The Foundation is currently managing a NOK 22 billion investment portfolio invested across asset classes. In April, she will join DnB Asset Management as Portfolio Manager for a global sustainable equity fund.

Isabelle has 22 years-international experience in investment management from France, USA, and Norway. She previously worked as senior analyst at Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), the Norwegian sovereign wealth Fund. She focused on environment-related investments and headed the research on climate and environment-related long-term challenges and solutions for integration in the investment process. Before NBIM Isabelle worked as portfolio manager for alternative strategies and Head of hedge Fund investments at Storebrand. She also worked as equity research analyst at DnB Markets. Before moving to Norway, she worked as Head of research for Genesee Investments, a Hedge Fund based in Seattle, USA and as a financial analyst for Procter & Gamble in Paris, France.

Isabelle is a board member of the Katapult Foundation, chair of the board of CFA Society Norway, member of advisory board for CFA Institute EIC and is a member of the European Foundation Financial and Investment Officers Group.

Isabelle is a CFA Charterholder, has executive education in sustainable investments from Columbia University, a Master of Science in Management from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce, Bordeaux France and an MBA from Pacific Lutheran University, WA, USA.
