Master of Science
Below you will find the schedule for Orientation Week with details on events to attend that will help you transition to your new life as a Master of Science student at BI.
Wednesday 15 August
Becoming a student at BI Norwegian Business School means that you are entering a new stage in your life. This commences with a Matriculation ceremony, marking the start of your MSc programme. Join in on the festivities!
BI Mastermind Games
Kick start your student life at the BI Mastermind Games, which will be your first opportunity to interact, share and communicate with your fellow classmates – and have some fun! The Games will test your abilities through different challenges that will initiate group work, positive discussion and cooperation. This is an excellent setting for you to relate with future colleagues, and may help you transition into the classroom when you begin your programme.
Thursday 16 August - Personal and Professional Skills Day
What does it take to succeed?
What does it take to succeed in this first semester, what are employers looking for in a graduate, and how can you develop the skills needed? A panel debate between representatives from Equinor, Gjensidige, Deloitte, faculty, and a BI alumnus, facilitated by the Dean for MSc.
We finish the session with a humorous reflection by photographer CF Wesenberg on how creative intentions and skills don’t necessarily match outcomes in social media, or “take charge of how you are perceived”.
What defines you when working in a group? Have you ever wondered why you are frustrated if others come up with new suggestions when you are about to finish a project, or why others don’t understand how important it is to have a positive atmosphere in the group? This hands-on session with focus on skills for group work will provide some clues that may give you a head start to your group assignments at BI. It will be facilitated by company representatives from DNV GL, Equinor, Tine and DNB who use this tool actively in their work.
Giving, receiving and using feedback
How can you improve your academic results through giving, receiving and using peer feedback? In this session you will practice your peer feedback skills, get advice and tools which will help you develop your cooperation skills, and learn how to best manage feedback to support your learning.
Monday 20 August - Academic Day
Eager to get started? This is your first meeting with your Associate Dean, the professor responsible for your programme. He or she will present the programme, identify expectations, and discuss the opportunities you have ahead - and how you can contribute to the best possible learning environment
What can you do with a BI degree?
You are about to make a great personal investment over the next two years. At BI, you will see the world from different angels, and benefit from diverse points of view and perspectives in the classroom, be challenged to be your true self, foster your personal energy to complete tasks, and set your future careers goals. Not the least; you will gain knowledge for the future. But where and how will you be able to apply these skills and knowledge? What challenges will your future employer expect you to solve?
Our alumni ambassadors are here to share their stories and their take on future challenges in the business community. In 7 parallel sessions, they will share what it takes to develop the skills and get the job you want and give you some first-hand insight on what to expect when graduating.
How to motivate and lead yourself to success?
This is a motivational session with the purpose of bringing everything you have learned during Orientation Week together. You will receive practical advice on how to identify and set personal goals, and utilize behavioural as well as cognitive strategies for self-leadership. In short - how to get where you want!
