BI Case Teams

BI receives invitations to participate in many prestigious international case competitions and teams from BI travel abroad to compete. In addition, BI has its own internationally recognized competition, BI International Case Competition (BIICC), held in February every year.

Teams that achieve top results in national competitions will get the change to represent BI in international case competitions. 

BI International Case Competition (BIICC) is an annual case competition at BI Campus Oslo. Every year 11 prestigious schools from all over the world is invited to solve a real-life business case provided by one of our corporate partners. Our goal is to deliver a world-class learning experience for our participants through a challenging case competition and a unique program. The 12 international teams must come up with solution to the business case within the limited time frame and present their final solution to a judging panel consisting of representatives from the business community. All BI students are encouraged to watch the final to see the best teams perform. Seize this opportunity to learn from the best!

Throughout the BIICC week there are several activities at campus for the participating teams. We also arrange an evening event for all BI students where they get a chance to meet representatives from the strategic corporate partners of BIICC.

BIICC Open gives BI students an opportunity to solve the same case as the international teams of BIICC. The competition is held concurrent with BIICC and is open to bachelor and master students from all BI campuses.

The case launch in Oslo will be live-streamed on the BIICC Facebook page for students in Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim. The teams have 24 hours to solve the case and submit their solution. A jury will rank the solutions and the top three teams meet the next day at campus Oslo for the BIICC Open final. If a team from Bergen, Stavanger or Trondheim is among the top three teams, BI will cover transportation costs. 

The BIICC Open final is divided into a bachelor final and a master final. The teams present their solution to the jury. The winning team receives a prize from the premium partner of BIICC.

The BI Case Challenge is an annual case competition, allowing bachelor students at BI to compete against their peers across our four campuses. The challenge consists of two rounds, the qualifying round in March/April and the final round in August/September. BI Case Challenge aims to provide a fun learning experience for 1st and 2nd year bachelor students. All you have to do is to form a team of four bachelor students and pick a team name. The team name must be neutral and give no indication as to which campus the team represents. Fair play is an essential criterion in the case competition and all participants are expected to treat each other with respect.

Who can compete?

• BI Students on all four campuses (BI campus Bergen, BI campus Oslo, BI campus Stavanger and BI campus Trondheim)
• Bachelor students in their 1st and 2nd year of their study programs
• Age limit of 25

Case structure
Qualifying round: The Qualifying case will be available on the student portal at a given date and the teams have appr. two weeks to solve the case and submit their solutions (a one-page executive summary and a PowerPoint of 10-15 slides). On the same day as the case is handed in, the teams will be asked to present their solutions and their presentations will be taped (more information on this will sent via email after sign up). There will be no Q&A, and the video presentation will be sent to jury who will pick the three best teams to qualify for the finals.

Final round: The top three teams from the qualifying rounds will be picked to compete in the final round in Oslo in August/September. The final case will be a real business case and the teams will have 48 hours to solve the case. The teams will have to present in front of a jury consisting of judges from the case company. There will be a Q&A session after the presentation. The winning team will secure themselves a spot to represent BI at an international case competition this autumn.

BI National Case Competition (BINCC) assembles teams from all BI campuses to solve a real-life business case provided by our strategic corporate partners.

BINCC lasts for three days and is held in October/November every year. The four campuses take turns hosting the competition.

The teams receive a warm-up case one week prior to the competition. When the teams meet, they will have 15 minutes each to present their solution to the warm-up case, followed by a ten-minute Q&A session. This is an important learning arena for the participants and therefore all teams watch each other present. The jury, consisting of representatives from the case company and prominent representatives from business and public sector, decides on a winner who receives a prize.

Thursday morning the – until then – top secret main case company is revealed and they present the main case to the students. From the case launch the teams have 12 hours to come up with their solutions.
